Jones

A 26-year-old Laurel man was jailed Friday after Laurel police narcotics agents raided his 3rd Avenue home.

Mark Anthony Jones, 1045 N. 3rd Ave., was arrested following a three-week investigation. He was expected to have his initial appearance in Laurel Municipal Court on Monday charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, which will be enhanced because he was selling drugs within 1,500 feet of a school.

LPD Sgt. Vince Williams said the narcs along with members of the Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant at the home Friday at about 10 a.m.

After securing Jones, police found a plastic bag with a little less than a pound of weed in it and also two one-ounce bags of weed. Police also seized digital scales and about $3,200 in cash. The marijuana had an approximate street value of $1,200.

Williams said Jones is a significant player in Laurel’s marijuana trade. Jones was also arrested last year on marijuana charges.
